This session will address the unique ethical dimensions that both nonprofit organizations and donors face when using a venture philanthropy approach. A draft set of guiding principles for the field will be reviewed and discussed.

Venture philanthropists are typically more closely involved with their investees beyond their financial investment. This session will examine strategies used by venture philanthropists to provide capacity-building assistance to nonprofit organizations and the implications of this new “engaged philanthropy” approach.

This session will highlight developments in financing mechanisms for philanthropic investment beyond simply conventional grants. Discussion will address the relationship between investment tools and heightened performance expectations on investees. Methods under discussion will include loans, loan guarantees, equity equivalents, and other unique approaches.

11:30 Venture Philanthropy Investors' Circle (St. Istvan and St. Imre)
This session, made possible with support from the Levi Strauss Foundation, will allow Forum participants the opportunity to view an Investor’s Circle. We will hear presentations from two social entrepreneurs in Central Europe with whom NESsT has been working. They will briefly present their business plans for social enterprises. Participants will act as potential “investors” and have an opportunity to ask questions and make investment recommendations for each presenting organization.
